The Sermon where Southeast Christian Senior Pastor Dave Stone announced MISSION 8:18
Deuteronomy 8:18 But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today.
The economy continues to decline. The cost of living increases while salaries decrease.
Many are without jobs. We face an uncertain future. And we serve a God who expects us to live simply, to work hard, to serve much, and to steward His blessings for His glory.
Mission 8:18 is a community where we celebrate new ideas and old wisdom, where success is measured by living below our means so we can be better stewards of God’s blessings. In this community we reject the idol worship of today: “He who dies with the most stuff wins”. In this community we seek to redefine “wealth”, seeking God’s definition and not our own. Does your life feel cluttered? Are you stressed out trying to keep up the appearance of success? Do you work hard to earn a living? Wouldn’t it be awesome to instead work to earn a giving? We hope the MISSION 8:18 Community will be a place for heart change, where practical wisdom can prepare us all for whatever lies ahead.
Proverbs 6: 6-11 Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest. How long will you lie there, you sluggard? When will you get up from your sleep? A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest— and poverty will come on you like a bandit and scarcity like an armed man.
We are seeking the wisdom of the frugal. Please feel free to share your ideas for frugal living, and to be an encourager in this community as we seek to complete MISSION 8:18- Debt Free by 8/18.
